Riding Locations in Louisville, Kentucky
Motorcycle riders find a lot to love about the Bluegrass State, with scenic environments to explore, farms, caves, and the Kentucky Appalachian mountains looming large. Read on for a few great routes to try out for yourself.
Brown Country to Ohio River Cruise
This route runs from Bloomington, Indiana to Brandenburg, Kentucky, and shows you a great time in between. Start in Bloomington and head east on route 46 then take route 135 the rest of the way — easy directions, easy enjoyment!
But don’t think it’s too easy. These are some of the best roads for motorcycle riding in the country, with plenty of sharp turns leading into elevation climbs then the inevitable descent. You’ll also get a fantastic tour of beautiful sections of Indiana. There are tons of rest areas and roadside amenities to enjoy, or simply ride through the lush hardwood forests. Road quality is good throughout, though these scenic routes tend to get busy in the spring and fall.
Elk Creek Winery Loop
There’s plenty to find on this route that takes riders east of Louisville for a great mix of scenery, twists, and amenities along the way. Start at Pee Wee Valley, just outside Louisville. Take US 60 east to Frankfort then go North on US 127 until you’re just south of Monterey. There, switch to route 607 east until meeting Highway 227 and taking that to Owenton. From Owenton, head to route 22 west to loop back around and hit I-265, at which point you’ll be just north of where you started.
Along the way, you’ll ride through rolling hills and farmlands scattered between smaller towns. There are a lot of vistas and ridgeline roads, so you’ll almost always have a fantastic view. The road quality is solid and well maintained. Be careful about your speed when approaching the smaller towns, and get ready for the extremely twisty 227. There are numerous amenities along the way, but a lot of attention falls on the Elk Creek Winery!
