Motorcycle Routes Around Tampa

Florida might not be known for its motorcycle routes, but that’s just o keep the tourists out of the loop! While there isn’t a lot in the way of mountains or canyons, instead you get to experience twisting backroads and wonderful views of the coast. Whether you’re two-up or alone, you’re sure to find a lot of enjoyment some of these rides.

North Tampa Circuit

This route start in Land O Lakes at SR 54 & Collier Parkway and winds through the open country north of Tampa up to Brooksville. You’ll find the scenery hardly a reminder that you’re in Florida with the many horse and cattle ranches dotting the landscape, though you’ll be reminded when you see the seemingly endless orange orchards. This is a particularly breathtaking sight during the spring when oranges are in bloom and their smell is in the air.

The rest of the routes is a zig zag with a few hilly sections that offer interesting views of the countryside. Go east to Trilby, south to Dade City & Zephyrhills, and back west to Land O Lakes. Good road quality will keep you riding smooth on this route, though there are some narrow, bumpy sections to watch out for. There’s not too much in terms of roadside amenities on account of this being a back road route, but toward the end you’ll hit Dade City and Zephyrhills, both of which have a lot in terms of restaurants, shops, and a few local attractions.

Ozello Trail Ride

The Ozello Trail Ride is deceptive in its simplicity, but it will show you something special. The route starts off 60 miles north of Tampa, just north of Homosassa Springs, in Cutlers right off US Highway 19. Also known as State Route 494, Ozello Trail heads west toward St. Martins Marsh Aquatic Preserve.

You’ll get to experience plenty of twists and turns along the way as you pass by lots of waterline. There are plenty of side roads to explore, with almost unlimited opportunities for unique views of the Gulf. Save time for a meal at Peck's Old Port Cove toward the end of the route, or visit the Island Outpost mid-way through. The roads are in good condition, though the twists are best handled by riders with a moderate level of experience. There are sandy parts that can trip you up if you’re not on the lookout.
