Motorcycle Routes Around Orlando
Florida will give you clear skies and warm air for the perfect weekend motorcycle ride. And with no shortage of scenic routes throughout the state, you’re sure to find one that fits your riding needs. Read on for a few examples that might interest you.
Casey Key
This is a short route that packs everything there is to love about Florida riding into one route. Beach roads, beautiful homes, and all the sunshine you could ever want is waiting for you! Start in Nokomis just off US41. You have the choice to go south from Blackburn Point or north from Albee Road.
The route curves along the west coast and offers wonderful views, but be warned: there’s nowhere to stop along the seven-mile ride. The scenery is well worth it. And if you reach the end and want to keep riding, simply make a hardright at the north end of the key and leave the island to stay on Casey Road. This gives you another mile or so where you get shady tree tunnels before opening up again along the water.
The roads are in good condition, though it can vary in the later summer months. As stated above, there isn’t anywhere to stop on this route, so plan your ride accordingly.
Scenic SR13
Experienced riders have likely heard of this route, if not ridden it for themselves. You’ll start out on a busy highway, but that will narrow into four lanes and then, eventually, two lanes as you ride up to St. Johns River.
There are a lot of small communities along this 38-mile ride with a few parks as well. Live oaks and other trees along the route provide some shade, and there are several stores and restaurants along the way to give you something to look forward to. While it’s nothing complicated, this scenic route is worth the trip!
Sugarloaf Mountain
This classic route is a favorite for local riders. It can be ridden to or from Apopka, which is located northwest of Orlando. You’ll be challenged by tight corners, hilly inclines, and an overall varied riding experience compared to other routes in Florida.
The scenery goes from open to wooded and sparsely populated as you reach the northern side of Lake Apopka. At CR 561, make a loop around Sugarloaf Mountain to find winding curves and inclines to play on. Once you reach the highest point on the road, you’ll be greeted with an amazing view east over Lake Apopka. If it’s clear, you’ll have the Orlando skyline in the background.
